In order to improve the learning effectiveness among elementary and junior high students, the Compulsory Education Advisory Group of Miaoli’s Education Department establishes Miaoli EERC in charge of English teaching in Miaoli’s elementary and junior high schools. It is the diversified and lively spirit of EERC to help students develop basic competency of English and lay a solid foundation from a joyful learning scenario.

Our Mission and Goals
  • 1Integrate the central and local governments and other resources to launch a program of enhancing the effectiveness of English learning, and develop children’s English competency.
  • 2Launch the program of introducing foreign teachers, manage the human resource of foreign teachers, and enhance the effectiveness of English teaching at schools.
  • 3Integrate the English Curriculum & Instruction Advisory Group among elementary and junior high schools to launch workshops of content and language integrated learning, teachers’ social media, and the base for teacher’s preparation and sharing, to improve English teachers’ professional knowledge and children’s English competency.
  • 4Propagate efficiently and transform the tips of general guidelines and curriculum guidelines to enhance teachers’ literacy-oriented teaching, diversified assessments, and the standard-based assessment in order to improve students’ English literacy competency.
  • 5Conduct a pilot field study on the bilingual teaching program and teachers’ preparation and sharing to upgrade their professional knowledge in hope of assisting schools in Miaoli to promote bilingual teachings effectively.
  • 6Establish EERC’s website as a platform for resource sharing tobe in line with the spirit of sharing resources and cooperation to achieve mutual benefits.
  • 7Establish EERC’s FB pages to enhanceteachers and parents a better understanding of the current developments in promoting English learning in Miaoli.

Foreign Teaching Adviser

1. Provide instructional guidance for foreign teachers and ELTAs:
(1) Hold monthly consultation meetings between EERC and the central ELTA center to monitor the collaboration between schools and ELTAs and to provide timely feedback.
(2) Project support: In case of ELTAs with issues, offer timely intervention and assistance. If unresolved, report to the ELTA center for further evaluation.
(3) Provide instructional guidance for FETs and FETAs under MOE’s project (e.g., recognition of foreign teachers' years of experience).

1. Organize workshops on "Enhancing English Reading Literacy," “PLC (Professional Learning Community)" and conduct workshops on "EMI (English as a Medium of Instruction)", providing continuous, professional support for teachers.
2. Assist in the creation of curriculum design, materials, teaching examples, and assessments for "Competency-Based Teaching in the 12-Year National Curriculum" and "English Reading."
3. Provide the support in collaborative lesson planning and lesson observation for the schools with "Bilingual Education in Selected Subjects" program, as well as interested partners.
4. Implement workshops on using AI to enhance teaching and learning.
5. Develop teaching materials related to EMI and bilingual education.
