The warm sunlight gently shone into my room as I woke up in a daze. A new day had begun. Although it is already our third week in Australia, I gain new perspectives every day and continue to discover the amazing aspects of Australian culture.
In my homestay family, there are three people: Mrs. Mandy Lai, her mother, and her son, Ronald. Ronald is already in college and was born in Australia. They are Chinese and migrated here after Mandy’s mother retired. They are very kind, and the food is delicious, too. I love the garden in the backyard because of the blooming, gorgeous flowers. The room is very comfortable, and I can chat with my roommate, Eli. We had great conversations about our school life and the differences between Taiwan and Australia. In my opinion, the people here are quite friendly and enthusiastic. They are willing to help in any situation, and the natural environment is also different from that in Taiwan. It takes us 20 minutes to walk to the train station. On the way, we see lots of green trees and wildlife. I’ve never seen hares and parrots wandering in the streets before. I admire and feel a bit jealous of the rich natural scenery here.
To my mind, Wednesdays and the weekends are the most exciting times because we visit popular sights in Sydney and make wonderful memories with friends. All of them are interesting, but the experiences at Sydney Tower and Manly Beach impressed me deeply.
It was my first time visiting the city of Sydney. When we crossed the Sydney Harbour Bridge, huge skyscrapers appeared in front of my eyes, especially the Sydney Tower, which is somewhat like Taipei 101 in Taiwan. When we went up there, the city looked tiny, and the view was breathtaking. The glass windows reflected my excitement at the magical landscape. I took lots of great pictures with my friends and explored the city like a bird with a telescope.
On the weekends, we went to Manly Beach with my friends. The sun was shining, and the sky was crystal clear. I jumped into the rolling waves right away. The water was cold and salty. We did lots of activities there, such as tag, beach ball, and swimming. We also had some ice cream near the beach. Although it was winter in Australia, the weather was bright and sunny. I spent a wonderful afternoon with my friends. I really enjoy my time with them.
Time flies, and there is only few days left. I wish I could do my best to broaden my perspective in Australia and hold on to the precious memories with my friends in Australia. I also want to thank all the teachers who are with us. You encourage us to perform at Marsden High School, help us with various problems, and teach us how to take care of ourselves and communicate in English. The experience in Australia is just like an adventure; you always discover new things and face new challenges. You never know what will happen next. The “Bridge to Success Project” held by Miaoli County has enriched my life.
