《Unforgettable Connections at Marsden High School》
The past week at Marsden High School has been quite different from my very first week here. I feel more confident speaking with the locals and have finally made some friends at this school.
Two weeks ago, when I first interacted with the students, I felt nervous and awkward. But now, I can share my life with them naturally, and we often chat about our hobbies together. Although my English isn’t perfect, they have always been very patient with me. When I don’t understand certain words, someone who knows Chinese usually helps explain them to me, which makes me feel very warm and welcomed.
Through these conversations with my friends, I’ve noticed some differences between us. They told me that they have four terms in a year, and their vacations are much shorter than ours. When they heard that we have two months of summer vacation, they were all surprised. We also talked about the food we eat during school days. At their school, they need to bring their own food from home or buy it from the canteen. When I mentioned that we have school lunches every day and can eat in our classrooms, they were very intrigued and surprised.
After meeting these students at Marsden High School, I feel a bit regretful. I wish I had started talking to them sooner. Today is our last day at Marsden High School, and I’ll really miss playing badminton and table tennis in PE class, the interesting conversations we had in the hallways, the big laughs in fun classes, and even the sleepy moments when we watched boring videos. Thanks to this program, I got to meet these wonderful people in Australia. Although time has flown by quickly, the best memories will always stay with me.
