I counted days, and I counted miles from Taiwan to Australia, now this is the last weekend I can enjoy every single blessed moment in this fantastic country and with my heart-warming host family. It is not the first time I have lived with a host family, surrounded by strangers I didn’t know before, in a completely different country for an extended period. Although adjusting to live with a host family can be challenging, particularly due to cultural differences and unique lifestyles, the kindness and warmth from my host family made me feel like home in this distant land.
My host mother and her husband are both Indonesian and came to Australia 25 years ago. Meeting people from different countries and backgrounds has been an interesting experience. We shared a lot of fascinating insights about our countries and cultures, from food to lifestyle with them. I have learned a lot from our conversations, and we laugh together every day. I especially love the backyard behind our room, where I spend time with my junior high school roommate. The fresh air and vibrant plants or flowers create a magical atmosphere that lifts my mood at the start of each day. Not only do I enjoy the lively views, but the delicious breakfasts my host mother prepares also bring back fond memories.
We students can plan our own trips to Sydney every Sunday. When I mentioned to my host mother that I was wondering where to go with my friends, she quickly recommended numerous tourist spots and shared her favorite places with us. It was both sweet and joyful that she wanted to introduce Sydney from her perspective and even taught us how to use public transportation.
Although this is not my first time staying with a host family in a different country, each unique host family has provided me with invaluable experiences. I am deeply grateful to all the members of my host family for their kindness and friendliness, which have given me the best memories of Australia.
